OrganiCity

OrganiCity was a 3-year collaborative research project, funded by the European Commission. The project developed and tested a new service for experimentation, which brought citizens, businesses and city authorities together to create digital solutions to city challenges.

Story Design

OrganiCity was a big and complex project – not only did we need to reach and engage a wide and diverse audience across Europe, but we needed to manage the communications of two open calls and two experimentation phases, whilst aligning the messaging, goals and priorities of 15 international project partners.

Through a story design process, we developed a visual identity for the project that captured the diversity of the OrganiCity community and reflected the playfulness of experimentation. We wanted people who had no experience in urban experimentation to be able to easily understand OrganiCity’s mission and feel confident applying in our open calls, so we broke down the project's complex concepts into accessible illustrations and copy. We also knew that such a large project could feel overwhelming to our audiences, so we introduced the people behind OrganiCity in videos and photos across our social media channels to help the project feel more human.

Writing

Our final output for the project was the OrganiCity Playbook, which was launched at Bilbao IoT Week 2018. The playbook provides a high-level overview of the project's key concepts, an honest account of our journey and lessons learned, and a quick-start guide for how others could take the OrganiCity vision forward.

Film production and storyboarding

In keeping with the playful tone of the visual identify, we produced a short animated film to share the process of an OrgnaniCity experiment and build excitement for the future of the OrganiCity service.
